Development U9
SPRING 2025
Skill progression, foundations of team play and positions on the pitch are the focus, as well as continuing to increase physical literacy and agility.
U8/U9 (2017-2016) have two 60min practice a week. We try to keep a 8:1 participant/coach ratio.
This age group meets twice a week for 8 weeks. The season starts on Mon May 5 and ends on Mon June 30. (There is no practice Mon May 19th)
There will be both practices and scrimmages in this program.
Important information about the scrimmages:
- Scrimmages should not be viewed as competitive, but rather a place to take the skills learned and put them into practice.
- Players will be encouraged and given the opportunity to try a variety of positions, including goalkeeper.
- Scrimmages will be refereed by young players from the club who have taken a short refereeing course. For many, this will be their first experience of refereeing. Coaches and players should respect this and not try to put undue pressure on our younger referees.
- At this age, U8/U9, there will be no offside rule and the referee should take time to explain to the players the reason for any fouls. This allows the players to learn and understand the rules of the game.
- Players will be allowed to kick the ball in to play in place of a throw-in if they wish.
- There will be no league standings for this age group.
SPACE IS LIMITED IN ALL SPRING PROGRAMS AND WILL BE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.
