CAUSE Kids

Kids all over the world love soccer!  Without needing a lot of equipment or organization, neighbourhood and community soccer games can spring up at a moment’s notice.  Everywhere CAUSE Kids works, we see kids playing soccer wherever they can; in the street, in schoolyards, and in any place with enough room to run around.  These impromptu games are fast paced, fun and filled with incredible displays of skill.

Sport and recreation is a powerful tool for community development.  Soccer provides kids of all ages with an opportunity to compete, and have fun and it greatly contributes to their sense of accomplishment and teamwork.  Supporting soccer programs in our project countries is one of the ways that CAUSE contributes to community development.  Few things restore hope more quickly than play!

In Sierra Leone, West Africa a 10-year civil war left many people with debilitating amputations.  CAUSE recognized how soccer could play into the rehabilitation of war-wounded and civilian amputees and initiated a community rehabilitation project, which included an amputee soccer league. This soccer league has enabled many single leg amputees to gain self-confidence and discover one of the many ways in which they can still enjoy life.

CAUSE Kids believes in community development both overseas and at home.  Through support of Canmore Minor Soccer CAUSE Kids hopes to further Canadians’ understanding of how a healthy life for kids all over the world is a basic human right.  CAUSE Kids incorporates play and sport into our programs and helps Sierra Leonean children experience life as they deserve to, with dignity, confidence and joy.
